We do Consumer Consultations before Increasing Tarrifs – PURC

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Richard Asiedu, when considering whether or not to increase tariffs, the commission engages in consultations with consumers.

This is to ensure that the concerns of consumers are taken into account and that the decision is made in the best interest of all stakeholders.

Speaking on Opemsuo Dawuro, he explained that consumers play a vital role in the performance of their duties. In order to ensure quality service, PURC conducts consumer monitoring.

“PURC has set benchmarks for all utility companies and continually conducts monitoring and evaluation to ensure that they are performing their duties,” he said.

The benchmarking process includes not only tariff reviews but also quality of service, safety standards, and other performance indicators.

The consumer however, is at the centre of this process, as the PURC strives to ensure that they receive quality service and value for money from their utility providers. Tariffs are just one aspect of the commission’s responsibilities.
