The Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) has introduced Mytilineos S.A, a Greece-based metallurgy, energy and EPC company as its new partner in the development of bauxite at Nyinahin-Mpasaaso.

The introduction took place at the Manhyia Palace on March 18, 2024, with the leadership of GIADEC presenting their partners led by Mrs Marianna Gauvriel, Honorary Consul General of Greece and Cyprus in Ghana.

Some of the executives including Dimitrios Kakavouhas, Loaunis Theodora and Georgois Bekiaris were introduced to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Introducing them, the Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC, Mr Michael Ansah said President Nana Addo Dankwa unveiled the partner on January 26, 2024, after a strategic process.

He said the partners will first undertake a Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) to validate and define the bauxite resources on Block C of the Nyinahin-Mpasaaso area before onward processes.

The Block, he said is made up of Hills 7, 8, 9 and 10 and would undergo prospecting for the first time.

“Not too long ago, we came here to introduce Rocksure International as our first international partner. Today we come with Mytilineos, a leading Greece-based industrial and energy company… We are here to introduce them to His Majesty as well as seek his permission and counsel.”

In a speech, a member of the Mytilineos delegation assured Otumfuo of the needed job creation and contribution to economic growth of Ghana. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to engaging in responsible and eco-friendly mining activities.

Meanwhile, the Honorary Consul General of Greece and Cyprus in Ghana, Mrs Marianna Gauvriel who accompanied her countrymen to the Palace presented Myrtle wreath, a gold myrtle leaves and flowers, to Otumfuo.

The gift, she said is particular to the Macedonia Kingdom in Greece and signifies strength, fertility and prosperity.

Otumfuo, for his part assured them of the needed support as he highlighted the country’s shortfall in exploring the abundant mineral resources.

“Ghana is looking for investors to develop our mineral resources. We are looking for partners and that is the objective of GIADEC. The problem is that they are handicapped in exploring our resources.”

“We expect you to be a good investor and the partnership must be mutual in benefit.”

Among the delegation were Dr Anthony Oteng Gyasi, the Board Chairman of GIADEC and Hon Akwasi Osei Adjei, the Deputy CEO.
