Ghanaians Commend Fire Service For Rescuing Drowning Man

Dozens took to the Facebook page of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to commend them for rescuing a middle-aged man from drowning.

The incident happened over the weekend in Tema in the Greater Accra region.

According to a statement from the Service, officers from the Tema Newtown Fire Station responded to the distress call at the Chemu Lagoon behind the timber market in Tema.

“Rescuers who swiftly responded to the emergency on arrival at the scene found an immobile aged man stuck at a section inside the lagoon with his whole body except his head submerged.

“Quickly, a line and a ladder were marshalled by the Officer-In-Charge to gain access into the river and across the lagoon to shoulder pull him out of the lagoon,” a statement from the Service dated May 27 narrated.

The victim was taken to the Tema General Hospital for treatment by the National Ambulance Service.

Following the communication, some Ghanaians took to the comment section to extol the rescuers.

One said, “Weldone Ghana fire service and ambulance service, this is what governance is all about, to save its people,” with another adding, “Good work now we see the importance of the NAS work side with the GNFS.”

“Well done.”
