OSP Teams Up with FBI for Cecilia Dapaah Probe

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has advanced its investigations into corruption and corruption-related allegations against Ghana’s immediate past Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, by collaborating with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In a brief statement on its Facebook page, the OSP stated that it, along with the FBI, has initiated concurrent inquiries into the activities of Abena Dapaah and her “associates”.

It explained, “These investigations primarily focus on examining their assets and financial transactions within the United States of America. This collaborative effort aims to ascertain the lawfulness of Ms. Dapaah and her associates’ wealth, both in the context of their funds transitioning from Ghana to the United States and vice versa.”

The OSP has labeled some properties belonging to the former Minister as tainted and has thus frozen and seized them to “prevent the concealment or loss of the said cash amounts”.

The public was shocked when the OSP told the court that a bank account belonging to the late brother of the former minister was still active and had recently transmitted funds to her account.

But the Minister reacted to the information, clarifying that the money in question was funeral donations transferred from an account specifically opened to collect funeral donations for her late brother, of which she is a signatory.

She said the money transferred into her account was meant for the payment of fees for her late brother’s children.
